This project, in collaboration with the Lincoln Laboratory of MIT, aims to design an online speech recognition tool for beginning-level students of Chinese to facilitate their efficiency of speaking practice. This tool, based on the materials covered in CHN I and II at MIT, provides immediate, quantitative feedback about the accuracy of students’ pronunciations, tones, intonations, vocabulary, sentences and clearly identify how students can improve their deficiencies. It also plans to extend its ambition to conversations.
